Persian orange coloured Allis Chalmers tractor, model A - serial number A260026 - made in late 1930s. This is the largest model of Allis Chalmers and they were produced between 1936-1942. 1,200 were built, but only 5 were imported into New Zealand. 50 horse power, straight 4 cylinder petrol engine, 4 speed gearbox. This tractor has been restored and in January 1996 Doug Wilson of Richmond, Nelson gave it on long-term loan to Vintage Farm Machinery Society Inc. Allis Chalmers tractors had their 100th anniversary in 2001. A notice on the front has the following information. A Unique Story. This model "A" tractor was purchased by Drake Bros. Tua Marina, Blenheim, at the Canterbury A.& P. Show of 1937 from Andrews & Beaven. The journey took three days being driven to Blenheim towing a Red River threshing mill purchased at the same time. This was later sold. They were used for contract threshing in the Marlborough region before being sold to Ted Wilson, Stoke, Nelson. Here a grader was built onto the tractor and used extensively on and around the main highways in the Stoke and Richmond district. The tractor is now owned and restored by his son, Doug. Fifty two years later the tractor was driven back by road to the Canterbury A.& P. show grounds onto where it was originally purchased. The Model "A" tractor This is one of five to be imported by Andrews & Beaven in 1937 - 1938. It was the largest Allis Chalmers wheel tractor to be built at that time.
